Today was a weird one. At the last minute two ladies from South Clapham in London wanted to brush up on their Excel skills. One was starting a new job, the other going through the job finding process. This was a shrewd move on their part as the beginners Excel training course got them up to speed and up to speed fast. Along with the 3 months support they will get after the course Olivia and Cara are now fully set up for the most often encountered challenges Excel will throw at them.

Today it was InDesign CC training at the University of Cambridge at their Quayside venue just by the punts, just opposite Magdalene college. The group was a mixed bunch, some hadn't used InDesign before while others had been on a training course and wanted to develop their skills. Some of the features of interest were:
Today we delved into the depths of Power Pivot on one of our 2 day Power Pivot Training courses. Using the books of Albert Ferrari as a basis we look at how Power Pivot can immediately enhance your spreadsheets. To an In depth analysis of evaluation context and measures. I'm now starting to understand this context more and more and looking forward to conducting some more in depth Power Pivot training sessions. Encore personnel services in Leicester were extremely pleased with how quickly you can get answers to questions.
Pivot Tables, the FILTER function, the UNIQUE function and oodles of VLOOKUPS and INDEX MATCH Functions. That's right! If you didn't know that Google Sheets had this type of functionality then think again. Today's Google Sheets training was an interesting one in that I was solving some problems using various functions and formulas to extract information from a dump of data that is imported into Google sheets as a CSV file. At the days end Thames Labs could import the data into one Google Sheet and the data was automatically chopped and changed and mushed and mashed to produce some pretty attractive dashboards. Today I did a PowerBI training course for Anglian Water near Cambridge. Four gentleman at our venue just outside Cambridge in Cambourne. This course is still in it's infancy having only trained a a couple of times before, and as I am always learning I discovered that it was probably a good idea to keep the DAX part of the course simple so that the formulas do not confuse the delegates. Next time I'll have a real close look at what DAX functions I can use that are easy for beginners to grasp, and which of immediate use to students. Altogether a great training day, the delegates from Anglian Water got lot's of useful hints and tips. |
The art of trainingI've seen many things the good the bad and the darn right ugly. Not that perfection in training is anything I've achieved but sometimes a bit of empathy and common sense can make the person you're training feel at ease and aid training. Archives
