One of the questions that I'm getting asked more and more often is regarding recording a presentation on Zoom. Be it a PowerPoint or any other type of presentation for that matter. I mean it's pretty convenient especially if you fall into one of the following camps:
- Can't be there to present the presentation.
- Feel that you want to get a polished result.
- Want to get a video presentation together to upload to social media
- Want to create a video diary

Once you've got your subject together then a quick look at setting up your technology wouldn't go amiss
- Looking your best - Make sure you get a clear picture from your webcam, also make sure that your webcam is at eye level or a little above. (It actually gives a slimming effect when raise you camera above eye level but not too high otherwise you look like a little person). Ensure that you background looks professional and tidy. (Don't record in the kitchen). Just one more thing, dress smart and put on make up. Tips in the following tutorial video will really help you.
- Sounding your best - Get a decent microphone, minimise background noise, and use the noise suppression options in Zoom. This way you won't sound as if you're in a tin can. The following tutorial video will really help you get that professional sound in Zoom when recording your presentation.
One last thing is that it's a pretty good idea to get familiar with some of the shortcut keys and set them up as Global Keyboard shortcuts. You can do that by going into preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts and checking any shortcut that you plan on using regularly. This way, whenever you use that shortcut you won't get a "Bling" sound on the PC. If you're wondering what shortcuts are worth remembering, here they are:
- Alt & R - Start / Stop Recording
- Alt & P - Pause / Resume Recording
- Alt & S - Start Sharing / Stop Sharing your screen
Is using Zoom to record a presentation a good idea?
